10 Movies That Were A Million Times Better Than The Book
1. American Psycho
Bret Easton Ellis is one of those writers that believes himself to be a lot better than he is. The same could be said for a number of writers, but with Ellis, it just seems to resonate that little bit more. Plus, it doesn't help that his ego is constantly fuelled by his fans.
Ellis's work might get a lot of recognition but in reality, he repeats the same tropes, repeats the same character profiles, and even worse, repeats the same boring plotlines.
One good thing about adapting a book into a movie is the different variations it can take on. A director can have a different vision to the original writer, something that works or something that can end in failure. Thankfully, when it came to reworking American Psycho, director Mary Harron got it right.
She probably had a big hand in why it worked out better. Harron remained faithful but managed to capture the true essence of what the main character Patrick Bateman was all about. Somehow Harron was able to show a more diverse and deep meaning to the character and plot than the original writer. And not just a man being a d*ck.
It's all very confusing but basically, the book is terrible and the movie is pretty darn good.
