10 Movies That Were A Million Times Better Than The Book
7. LA Confidential
First things first, LA Confidential was a great book written by an even greater writer, James Elroy. Elroy is mostly known for his gritty 1950s Hollywood neo-noir murder themed stories, something that he has been passionate about ever since the unsolved murder of his mother when he was just a child.
The book, though not Elroy's best, is an excellent homage to the crooked cops and drug-ridden valleys of old Hollywood. The movie, in short, is a thousand times better.
The movie was so good, in fact, that even Elroy himself thought it better than his own work, later claiming, "The book is black type on white paper and the film is visual. It's a brilliantly compatible visual form of the novel."
Elroy was right, the movie is beautifully filmed with director Curtis Hanson managing to take make the audience feel as if they have just walked into a 1950s crime scene, along with Guy Pearce, Russell Crowe, Kim Basinger, and Kevin Spacey of course.
