Mario Puzo's epic novel, The Godfather, was extremely successful upon its release and continuously topped the NY Times Bestsellers list. But there was one major problem - it was way too long to be adapted purely.

The movie is now considered to be one of the best movies of all time. Plus, it helped cement the careers of iconic actors such as Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, and James Caan. And, of course, the movie helped propel the legendary Marlon Brando back into the limelight, with Brando's performance as Don Corleone one of his best.
