10 Movies That Were Just Trailers For Other Movies
6. Suicide Sqaud
The most literal meaning of a movie that was just a trailer, because Suicide Squad was literally edited by Trailer Park, a company who edits trailers.
Ayer's film was a mess from the get-go but after the divisive response to Batman v. Superman and the positive reaction to Suicide Squad's Bohemian Rhapsody-set trailer, DC got a bit nervous. So they hired said company who had made the Suicide Squad trailer and asked them to edit the film for them, in an attempt to recapture the energy from the trailer.
The result is horrendous. Suicide Squad feels like a two-hour trailer for other films and storylines because there aren't any scenes in the movie, there's just shots and things that happen. The film is so schizophrenic, so desperate to get to the next thing so as to not lose audience's interest that it can never marinate in anything for more than a second. It jumps sporadically from one poorly done song-overlay to the next, from obnoxious on-screen graphics to excessive character introductions.
Audiences showed up to the film for a litany of reasons, a few of which were to see the Joker/Harley relationship explored, to see Batman fighting the Joker, or to see Katana use her soul-stealing sword. And the film didn't deliver any of that, simply offering up as little as possible in an attempt to tease future developments.
