10 Movies Today's Teens 'Need' Less Than Love, Simon

4. Fifty Shades of Whatever

Two of these have been released within the last year and both of them are toxic.

The studio may make an effort to cover up who they're selling these films to, but the sexual nature and choices of advertising locales make it pretty clear they're aiming for the teenage demographic. Which is a shame because not only are these films insipidly stupid, they teach incredibly wong-minded lessons and morales about how to maintain a healthy relationship.

Christian and Anastasia are two miserable people who have little to no chemistry and are only able to exist happily together when Christian can dominate Anastasia. Not just in the bedroom, but in life in general. He wants to have full control of her at all times, which is the absolute wrong way to teach teens anything about relationships or sexuality.

The latest film, Fifty Shades Freed, is made even more insulting in its attempt to give Anastasia a semblance of power. Having married Christian, the advertising very much played up the idea that she would now be the one in charge. In reality, the film still painted her as little more than a damsel in distress, the only difference was this time she's just as much of an !*$% as Christian is.

These are films about relationships in which everyone is trying to 'win' the relationship by being the most dominating in every scenario. In today's world, certainly not the kind of films teens 'need'.
