10 Movies Totally Changed For Overseas Audiences
3. Lincoln Had A Director's Introduction In Japan
Upon its release, Steven Spielberg's 2012 period piece, based on the final months of former US president Abraham Lincoln's life, was widely celebrated as one of the year’s finest films.
A combination of its patriotism and Daniel Day-Lewis' incredible acting in the lead role, led to huge appreciation from audiences in the US.
However, studio executives behind the film were extremely concerned that the film's success would not translate worldwide as many non-Americans would not understand the film's historical context.
To solve this issue, Spielberg and writer Tony Kushner added a minute-long scene of image and title cards at the beginning of the film which explained the basic history of the US Civil War.
Composer John Williams was also drafted in to produce a special musical accompaniment to the new introduction.
Although this was an impressive effort, it pales in comparison to the Japanese release which featured Spielberg himself on-camera providing the necessary background information.
