10 Movies Way Better Than They Had Any Right To Be

1. Get Out

Without a hint of hyperbole, Get Out is one of the best movies of 2017. So good in fact, that there are whispers that it might even take one of the so-called 'populist slots' among the Academy Award nominees for Best Picture. What makes its success even more staggering is that it came out of absolutely nowhere.

Who would have thought that Jordan Peele, best known for his work in the comedy genre as a cast member of MADtv and partnership with Keegan-Michael Key in their self-titled sketch series, would craft one of the most uniquely effective horror movies in years, in his directorial debut no less? This is a far cry from co-writing kitten-centric comedy Keanu, that's for sure.

Socially-aware and satirical without being too on-the-nose, genuinely suspenseful and at times hilarious, Get Out instantly became a modern horror classic. Audiences clearly agreed as the movie earned over $250m at the box office with a budget of just $4.5m, surprising people with its sheer inventiveness and firmly establishing Jordan Peele as a filmmaking talent to be reckoned with.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
