Fantastic Voyage is of a really specific subgenre of shrinking movies that are also about going inside someone’s body, which has later been parodied dozens of times like on a great episode of Rick and Morty. The setup is that the scientist who invents the shrinking technology is nearly killed, so to save him a group of scientists and CIA agents travel inside his body. They have exactly one hour to remove a blood clot from his brain because after that time, the submarine will revert to normal size.

Yeah, it turns out that in this movie the shrinking has a time limit, and the scientist had only figured out how to make it work for one hour. Fantastic Voyage treats the human body like some sort of bizarre alien planet, and things like blood cells are looked at like the planet’s dangerous creatures. You'll truly appreciate how strange biology is while watching this film.

The ending is really weird, just completely throwing its own logic out the window. They escape by swimming through the doctor’s eyes, returning to normal size just in time, but wait, what happened to the submarine? Theoretically everything returns to normal size at the end of 60 minutes, so shouldn’t the submarine have enlarged and killed him? Apparently you’re supposed to forget about that as the film wraps up.
