10 Movies With Ant-Sized Characters You Have To See
4. The Incredible Shrinking Woman (1981)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwM_0ulqduwThe directorial debut of Joel Schumacher, who would later go on to direct such classics as Batman and Robin, this film is a more comedic version of the Incredible Shrinking Man story, this time following a suburban housewife.
While Scott from The Incredible Shrinking Man is exposed to radioactive mist, in this movie Judith is exposed to some experimental perfume that, when mixed with chemicals from products around the house, randomly makes her start shrinking. Of course there’s your mandatory dog scene where she’s chased around by the pet, and she even starts living in a dollhouse like in the original movie.
But this time the film is going for gags rather than drama, with scenes like Lilly Tomlin declaring in frustration that she needs a hit and then attempting to smoke a giant cigarette unsuccessfully. There’s another fun gag where pouring champagne results in Pat being completely drenched in it as if she was standing under a waterfall. It’s basically an excuse for a bunch of slapstick and Lilly Tomlin being sarcastic and annoyed, but for a lighter take on the shrinking storyline, The Incredible Shrinking Woman is worth seeing and reveling in the '80s cheese.
