The Joe Dante comedy Innerspace is clearly heavily inspired by Fantastic Voyage, although while not quite being a direct remake. It’s got the same sort of premise with characters being shrunk down to go inside someone’s body, except here it’s just some random grocery store employee named Jack who has no idea what's going on.

In this one, though, the shrunken down Tuck can see everything Jack sees and can talk to him. The premise is played up for laughs, and Jack pretty much has the reaction you’d expect him to and assumes he’s possessed when he starts hearing voices.

Tuck gets Jack to help him out and take down a bunch of henchman, providing instructions from inside his body. You again get some of the exploration of the body, but Innerspace isn’t really about that as much as Fantastic Voyage was. It’s more about the humor of this guy doing things beyond his control, making insane wacky faces when Tuck is manipulating his muscles, and Martin Short executes that slapstick perfectly.

It doesn’t quite fit the mold of some of the classic shrinking films, but Innerspace is a fun little romp that takes an inherently goofy premise and isn’t afraid to be crazy with it.
