10 Movies Within Movies That Deserve A Standalone Release
1. Don't - Grindhouse
In short, Don't is the movie they should have made instead of Machete. It was the pick of the faux trailers in Grindhouse, this one the handiwork of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright.
Don't riffs on the vintage tropes from classic Hammer Horror films, except with a few extra buckets of gore thrown in, from the look of things.
Apparently, Wright dragged his completed film across a car park to give it the look of old, forgotten footage, and it does add a certain rustic charm. And with him at the helm, you can bet Don't would have been packed with fan-pleasing references, effective parody and cool practical effects.
Of all of Grindhouse's fake trailers, only Werewolf Women of the SS comes anywhere close to matching this, yet Machete is somehow the one that got a standalone release.
