2. Knives Out

Rian Johnson had been developing the story of Knives Out for many years before he got the chance to film it. He had first come up with the idea of a Agatha Christie styled thriller after directing Brick in 2005. He had most of the story developed before he began working on The Last Jedi.

Starring Daniel Craig, Christopher Plumber, Chris Evans and Jamie Lee Curtis, the plot centres around a family birthday party gone wrong. After celebrating his 85th birthday, Harlan Thrombey (Plumber) is found dead which leads to world famous private detective Benoit Blanc (Craig) to find out who the culprit is.

Of the title, Johnson said that he took it from the 2001 Radiohead single of the same name. Although there is no relation between the film's plot and the song, Johnson could not help himself from using it. The phrase had always stuck in his head, and he felt as though it was the perfect fit for his murder mystery.
