10 Movies You May Not Realise Are Based On The Work Of Shakespeare
6. Teen Angst + A Midsummer Night's Dream = Get Over It
In the late 90s, and early 2000’s there was a surprising trend for teen movies to adapt the works of Shakespeare, replacing the complexity of his stories with pimples, teen angst and more often than not, some pretty dodgy acting.
One such film to borrow from the playwright, is the 2001 Kirsten Dunst led comedy, Get Over It, which attempted to ride off of the success of 10 Things I Hate About You, this time adapting A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The films plot isn’t too dissimilar to Kiss Me, Kate. It features a cast of teens putting on a musical of said play, with each of the students lives unraveling as the film plays out. Though unlike Kiss Me, Kate the characters aren’t nearly as interesting, and the plot is rather predictable.
