Alejandro G. Iñárritu's grim epic western isn't for everyone, but even those dissuaded by The Revenant's glacial pacing will surely appreciate how beautifully bleak Emmanuel Lubezki's Oscar-winning cinematography looks in 4K.
This is an especially compelling argument for the benefits of HDR given that the entire movie was painstakingly shot in natural lighting conditions only, and the film was actually re-graded separately from the previous Blu-ray release specifically with HDR in mind.
This is probably the best cinematic representation of natural landscapes presently available in 4K, and it's all so damn authentic you'll feel like you're laying in that hollowed-out horse carcass right alongside Leo.
And don't worry, the digitally-created bear attack scene still looks as frighteningly realistic as ever.
