10 Movies You Won't Believe Were Rated PG
1. Watership Down
In 1976, many children were excited about the release of a new animated film called Watership Down. Because the story revolved around a rabbit warren, kids were expecting. acute little Disney adventure. Instead, viewers were left horrified and traumatised.
The adaptation of Richard Adam's novel centres around a colony of rabbits who seek a new home after one of them receives a prophecy that their warren will be destroyed. On their travels, several members of the colony are killed by hawks, dogs, and rival rabbits.
Although Disney has never shied away from in depicting death, they have the common courtesy to have the camera turn away at the grisliest moment. Watership Down, on the other hand, is not afraid to show these poor bunnies being slaughtered in graphic detail.
If you're wondering how such gory scenes were allowed in a PG film, it's worse than you would imagine. In many countries, Watership Down wasn't rated PG; it was rated G for general! According to the BBFC, who originally rated the movie, they have "received complaints about the suitability of Watership Down almost every year since its classification".
