6. The King Of Kong: A Fistful Of Quarters

If Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade offered a wonderful overview of an era of video games seemingly stuck forever in the 1980s, King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters dispels the notion that it is nothing more than a faded memory and shows that the competitive spirit of the age is very much alive and kicking. The kings of the scoreboard might have grown up, got "proper" jobs and raised families, but that hasn't gotten in the way of competing for the number one position. King of Kong - as the title implies - focuses on recent efforts to attain the highest score on Nintendo's smash hit masterpiece Donkey Kong, following Steve Wiebe as he attempts to claim the high score crown from reigning champion Billy Mitchell. It's a classic tale of rivalry - a Rocky for geeks, trading muscles for mullets - and it's clear that the passion these guys felt for gaming and the pride they took in their high scores has waned very little over the years. Perhaps inevitably, King of Kong came under criticism after its release, not least on account of disputes over who held which high score and when, but these quibbles don't detract from the documentary's entertainment value, whether you're a gamer who likes to argue the merits of PS4 versus Xbox One or one who longs for the return of Pole Position in your local chip shop.
