7. The Beatles: Yellow Submarine

Animated films are surreal and fantastical in their own right. But if you're talking about just the visual aesthetics of the animation and imagery, look no further for fun weirdness than the animated Beatles film Yellow Submarine. It's funny, it's heartwarming, it's very weird, but delightful all the way through.

The film centres on The Beatles being recruited by a resident of the fictional Pepperland to help retake their land from an invading force of music-hating creatures called the Blue Meanies. Along the way, they sail in their yellow submarine through various mystical seas, singing a few infamous tunes while they're at it.

From a visual, aesthetic point of view, Yellow Submarine is every bit as imaginative as it can be as it merges a variety of animation and cell-shading designs together to create a moving tapestry of art. But while other films after Yellow Submarine have perfected the art of creative visuals, it cannot compete with just how elaborate and ludicrous the set pieces within the film are.

Yellow Submarine tests the patience of non-fantasy fans in two ways - being focused on The Beatles, and it's surrealism. But rest assured, it is a film that has to be engulfed at least once.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
