For all the gross-out comedies Ben Stiller did in the past, one thing you can say about him is he is a reliable actor. It might be difficult to separate his more serious or stoic roles from the ludicruous and bombastic characters like White Goldman or Derek Zoolander, but when he is playing a protagonist that is likeable and endearing, he can certainly hold an audience' attention.

The movie's plot follows an office employee (Stiller) who goes on a globe-trotting adventure to find a missing photograph negative. It's part fantasy and part detective story, and combined with the elaborate and explosive imagination of the titular lead, the film drifts between exuberant fantasy and exaggerated reality.

What's charming about the film is that it can be very easy to dismiss the events that take place as fantasy. But when you scratch away some of the absurdities, you might be inclined to believe that a lot of the exaggerated events take place in Walter's head, and audience members are in it for the ride along with him.

Films that take place within someone's imagination are quite a rare thing to encounter, and The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty uses this aspect to create a wonderful story presented in quite a unique way.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
