10 Non-Christmas Films You Can TOTALLY Get Away With Watching This Festive Season
2. Lethal Weapon
This 1987 buddy cop classic is about two detectives, Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Murtaugh (Danny Glover), adapting to each other as new partners during the Christmas season with a dangerous criminal on the run. Much like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon may be a tough sell this Christmas but this film certainly has enough holiday spirit to go around.
How to convince others: Riggs is a suicidal wreck after his wife's death and seriously contemplates pulling the trigger on himself during the Christmas season. On top of that, the film features an awesome Christmas tree shootout scene and a wholesome ending where the two partners become friends when Riggs is invited to Murtaugh's house for Christmas dinner. Murtaugh also gives him a gift in the form of a hollow-point bullet, the one Riggs had initially planned to use to take his own life at the beginning of the film.
In many ways, this film has a lot of similarities to A Christmas Carol: Riggs has the same pessimistic view on Christmas as Ebenezer Scrooge and slowly goes on a journey of self discovery with thanks to his partner Murtaugh. It just features a lot more guitar solos by Eric Clapton.
