10 Non-Christmassy Christmas Films To Watch At Christmas
2. Edward Scissorhands
Another entry from the strange mind of Tim Burton, Edward Scissorhands tells the story of a synthetic man with scissors for hands who is taken in by his new family of friends. The movie is uplifting, funny and quirky - all of which makes it a great holiday movie!
At first glance, this might seem like a strange movie to watch over Christmas time. Let's be honest, Johnny Depp doesn't really look all that Christmassy in his tight leather outfit and bladed hands, but then this isn't actually meant to be a Christmas movie. So what is it about this film that warrants it to be watched at Christmas, then?
Well, the last half of the movie takes place around the Christmas period, with one scene showing Edward sitting at the end of a driveway with the family dog whilst the houses behind the two are lit up ready for the holidays. There is also the scene where Winona Ryder's character, Kim, finds Edward creating an ice sculpture of an angel in the backyard, which then creates its own snowfall.
Edward Scissorhands might not be totally Christmassy, but it does use the imagery of Christmas to play with our emotions.
