10 Notoriously Bad Movies With A Single Redeeming Feature

9. Kane In The Rain - Poltergeist II: The Other Side

Poltergeist 2Poltergeist II: The Other Side is about as ham-fisted a movie sequel as they come, unnecessary and horribly shoe-horned into existence in the worst possible way, but there is a singular moment embedded within this flick of otherwise mediocre offerings: one of the most unnerving and masterful sequences ever committed to a '80s horror movie, and one that would have no doubt have become hugely iconic had it been contained in a much better piece of work. In Poltergeist II, then, the Freeling family from the original movie are confronted by an insane preacher named Kane, played by a then-dying Julian Beck (which he channels into his performance, adding new layers of creepy), who turns up to steal their youngest daughter. The atmosphere during this one scene, which takes place in the summer rain, is so strange and unnerving, it's genuinely surprising than none of its charms are apparent anywhere else in the movie. But it's also good enough to justify watching the whole thing - just not before bed.
