Who doesn't love a good sea monster? There’s something primally, permanently fascinating about the otherworldly, Lovecraftian horrors that can come from the depths of the ocean. But we've had plenty of serpents, and aquamen, and krakens, and sharks in recent years. What we need is a giant lobster.
Ebirah appears in Ebirah, Horror of the Deep, a tremendously good fun Kaiju romp from 1966. This one really has it all; monster infested island. Terrorists manufacturing heavy water. Underwater battles. A race against time. A giant condor.
If there’s one thing that the Legendary MonsterVerse needs a little more of, it’s some of the sense of fun that runs through the best Toho movies. This one has it in spades.
Most tantalising of all, there’s the chance that if we see Ebirah again, we might also see the greatest and rarest feature of Kaiju movies finally make it into a Western Godzilla production. Yes! There might be another dance endurance marathon!
