Jonah Hill aside, is there another actor in Hollywood that's shifted from comedy work to dramatic work as seamlessly (and surprisingly) as Steve Carell?

Just ten years ago he was "that guy who got his incredibly hairy chest waxed", but now, he's an awards favourite, having bagged an Oscar nomination for Foxcatcher and a Golden Globe nod for The Big Short.

The same can also be said of Emma Stone - she's gone from Superbad to winning an Academy Award in those same ten years - and now, the two are teaming up for Battle Of The Sexes, a movie that will utilise their dramatic and comedic chops in what will hopefully be a fascinating tale that's loosely based on the 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs.

Movies that explore important themes like sexism and the gender pay gap are always welcome and always relevant, and Battle Of The Sexes looks to playfully discuss both, and it's got two of the most in-demand performers in the world leading it.

Oh, and it's also directed by the duo behind Little Miss Sunshine. Are you excited yet?

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
