10 Outlandish The Dark Knight Rises Rumours That Didn't Come True

10. Robin Will Appear

Speculation: After the idea that Shia LaBeouf playing Robin was quickly laughed up, more serious consideration towards the character's appearance was made once people realised that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would not be playing Alberto Falcone, but indeed a beat cop, an original creation by Christopher Nolan called John Blake. Surely, for a rising star like Levitt, who previously played a pivotal role in Nolan's Inception, this is too small and seemingly insignificant a part. Given Levitt's boyish, youthful looks, it wouldn't be too far a stretch to imagine that he might become either Robin or a precursor to Robin, and given our prior knowledge that Batman would be beleaguered for much of the film, it's hardly implausible that Robin would swoop in to help the Caped Crusader or end up taking over his duties. Fact: The debate continues about exactly what John Blake becomes in the final moments of The Dark Knight Rises, but from where I'm standing, it is not Robin. Yes, we hear that his birth name is in fact Robin, but to me, that is quite clearly Nolan's way of being tongue-in-cheek and teasing fans, as he has expressly stated that Robin the character will not feature in his series. Rather, Blake becomes, in some form, Batman Mk. 2, inheriting the Batcave and perpetuating the idea that Batman can be anyone; he must simply endure as a symbol of people standing up for what is right. He does not become Robin, and even in the minds of those who believe that he does some time in the future, it is not something that is shown in the film itself.
