4. If She Hates You, She Probably Actually Loves You

Here's a lie that's told to us from when we were children, and cinema has a particular knack of adopting it; if someone makes a special effort to demonstrate their hate for you, it is almost certain that they are in fact madly in love with you, and this is just their special way of showing it. Screw the rational explanation that, you know, they actually think you're an absolute scumbag; no, it has to be because they have hidden feelings for you that they are simply incapable of reconciling. Films tell us that if we meet someone nice who we get along with, we should probably distrust them and then promptly dump them; we have to triumph over adversity with the seemingly crazy broad who seems more intent on killing and burying us than loving us.
