8. Office Space
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IwzZYRejZQ Mike Judge's Office Space is an all-time classic satire, ripping the drudgery of the office workplace to shreds with scathing aplomb, depicting the attempt of one man, Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston) to rip-off his workplace so he can live a life of, well, sitting on his ass. The scam involved using a script that would steal fractions of pennies from millions of financial transactions within his company, and would eventually amount to a sizable sum over a few years. In the end, the plan screws up because the script Peter and his buddies use steals too much too quickly, though they manage to avoid detection when disgruntled co-worker Milton Waddams (Stephen Root) goes postal and burns the building down. 22-year-old Michael Largent decided it would be a good idea to give this a go, ignoring the absolute cluster**** the scam resulted in cinematically. Largent used a script to set up almost 60,000 accounts with various online brokerage firms, and the idea was that each account would be sent a few cents when the account was opened for verification purposes. Largent ended up netting about $50,000, but the FBI soon got wise to his scam, and Largent wasn't smart enough to...burn down every brokerage firm in the United States, so he went to jail.
