The scam involved using a script that would steal fractions of pennies from millions of financial transactions within his company, and would eventually amount to a sizable sum over a few years. In the end, the plan screws up because the script Peter and his buddies use steals too much too quickly, though they manage to avoid detection when disgruntled co-worker Milton Waddams (Stephen Root) goes postal and burns the building down. 22-year-old Michael Largent decided it would be a good idea to give this a go, ignoring the absolute cluster**** the scam resulted in cinematically. Largent used a script to set up almost 60,000 accounts with various online brokerage firms, and the idea was that each account would be sent a few cents when the account was opened for verification purposes.
