10 Party Animal Horror Movies
1. Piranha 3D
It's doubtful that any horror movie has ever partied quite so hard, or anywhere near as large-scale as this near-legendary 2010 gorefest. Director Alexandre Aja said at the time he set out to make the ultimate guilty pleasure movie, and given it piles on just as much flesh as it does blood, many would say he was successful.
Another very loose remake, taking the title but very little else from Joe Dante's 1978 creature feature (it actually started life as an original script entitled Killer Fish, from the same writers behind Sorority Row), Piranha 3D sees an Arizona town beset with its annual influx of rowdy college kids during Spring Break.
Speakers throb, beer flows free, and tops come flying off every which way as the young folk go charging carefree into the vast lake - unaware that a rare breed of prehistoric piranha have escaped into that same body of water, with even more ravenous appetites than the Spring Breakers.
Released in the wake of Avatar, Piranha 3D dismissed any notions about creating a more immersive visual experience, and went back to what 3D was always for: shoving stuff in people's faces, and often.
Happily, even in old-fashioned 2D it remains a gleeful spectacle, with its flying severed body parts, geysers of gore, and abundance of voluptuous women practically bouncing off the camera.
