10 Party Animal Horror Movies
2. Night Of The Demons
Yes, would you believe it's another contemporary remake of an 80s horror movie, which arguably improves on the original?
Adam Gierasch's 2009 takes the essentials from Kevin Tenney's 1988 cult favourite, and ups the scale significantly, the end result being some terrific B-movie entertainment.
The problem with the original Night of the Demons - and this isn't an easy thing to discuss in front of a certain breed of horror fan - is that when all's said and done, it's a bit boring. A mismatched ensemble head up to an old, supposed haunted house on Halloween night, with partying on the agenda - but there's only a few of them there, and for the most part they stand around quietly. There are some enjoyably gory and sexy moments, but they're few and far between.
The remake, by contrast, is pretty much wall-to-wall gory and sexy, with a very alluring core quartet in Shannon Elizabeth, Monica Keena, Bobbi Sue Luther and Diora Baird, and a large scale party that actually looks like it might have been worth attending.
Sure, the cops bust the place, leading to the abrupt exit of most of the attendees, and not long thereafter the few remaining souls start getting possessed - but this doesn't do much to dampen the party atmosphere of the movie.
There's a hazy, intoxicated feel which makes the film ideal midnight hour viewing, and it's almost enough to leave you thinking that, if that had to be your last party ever, it might not have been a bad one to go out on.
