10 Performances In Film Biopics That Actually Get It Right
9. Margot Robbie - I, Tonya
A standout of the 2010s, Margot Robbie found a place amongst Hollywood's elite with 2013's The Wolf Of Wall Street, and has since become one of the biggest actors working today. Earning her multiple Golden Globe nominations in 2018, Robbie took the role of Tonya Harding in the biopic I, Tonya, and gave a performance worthy of such accolades and so very much more.
The troubled figure skater's life off the ice was often the subject of numerous headlines, and Robbie does an exceptional job of depicting a girl whose life is falling as her reputation is rising.
The film covers her relationship with husband, Jeff Gillooly, her ascent to the top of the sport and the controversial attack on fellow competitor Nancy Kerrigan.
Margot Robbie is, predictably, fantastic in the role, and not unlike Charlize Theron's drastic glow-down (and immense performance!) in 2003's Monster, the ability to portray a raw, authentic and emotionally compromised character was a refreshing change, and one that absolutely makes sense for her career.
Harding's story was a tough tale to tackle and Robbie, along with her superb castmates, do an incredible job at bringing it to the big screen, warts and all.
