10 Performances That Could Save Upcoming Movies
5. Ben Schwartz - Sonic The Hedgehog

This project is so shrouded in mystery and there's likely a very understandable reason for that. Once the 1990s passed, Sonic the Hedgehog has had a real rough time trying to maintain any consistent success. Yet, that doesn't mean SEGA isn't intent on pushing him back into the limelight, and Sonic The Hedgehog is what they're hoping does it.
You've got Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik and James Marsden as a friendly sheriff, strong start yeah? Well, not exactly. It'll mix live-action and animated characters together, which brings up traumatizing memories of Alvin and the Chipmunks, as well as the recent Smurf movies for this writer. Carrey will likely ham it up in an attempt to bring out the cartoony nature of the character, but ultimately, it'll be up to the voice of Sonic, Ben Schwartz, to give this movie much of anything to appreciate. Schwartz is immensely underrated and many of his past characters indicate an ability to channel the best version of Sonic possible.
He'll be able to encapsulate the snarky arrogance of Sonic without making him unlikable. Ultimately, if there's any hope of the film working, it's on Schwartz to give audiences a protagonist they can actually like without getting annoyed or resentful of his extended screen time. Sonic fans are rooting for you, Ben.
