10 Planned Comic Book Movie Scenes We’ll Never Get To See

8. Clark Kent Comes Out

The grand history of characters who almost played iconic superheroes is a long and storied one, and you should probably count yourselves lucky that you don't live in the multiverse version of Earth in which Nic Cage and Tim Burton actually managed to get their Superman film made, or the one where Sly Stallone passed the audition... Another big name once linked to the Man of Steel before Christopher Reeve was perfectly cast was Godfather alumni James Caan, who was offered the role despite him having entirely the wrong hair for the role - but then at least he could act, so it is perhaps a shame that he turned Supes down, despite the script linking him back up with Mario Puzo. But then when you hear about that script, and the "more humorous" direction it was set to take, it's not at all surprising that Caan would pass. There was to be one scene in which Clark Kent pretty much got jealous of himself, and potentially sabotaged his entire secret identity for some Lois loving:
"Clark Kent is just devastated cause is so in love with Superman. Physically the office is setup in the ... In order to get to Clark Kent's office you must pass through Lois Lane's office. So, one day Clark is so pissed off that she is in love with Superman, he says, 'screw it.' And he rips his clothes off and he's got his Superman on under there. And he says, 'Lois, come in here!' She comes in and looks at him, 'That's sweet Clark, but you're no Superman.' And she walks out."
A funny scene, no doubt, but one that would have had some serious problems for retaining the magic of Superman's split personality.
