Cars 2 features a villain called Miles Axlerod who at first presents himself as a champion of the environment determined to bring about a transition from oil to renewable clean energy, claiming to have made the switch away from gasoline himself. By the end of the film, Axlerod's charming persona has well and truly slipped as you discover that his goal is to crush renewable energy sources at all costs, and that he isn't the eco-friendly car he claimed to be; he in fact still runs on gasoline. But if this is the case, how come no other cars could smell his fumes? Or see exhaust smoke? Perhaps this is because the entire premise for the film would fall apart and the good cars would be left without a main antagonist to contend with...
