The Joker is Batman’s public enemy number one. There have been many versions over the years with varying degrees of critical success. The one constant has been his familiar look, which resonates with every generation of fans. However, the recent Suicide Squad movie version of The Clown Prince of Crime was nearly unrecognizable.

Jared Leto’s ‘Suicide Squad’ (2016) version of The Joker was heavily criticized. From the odd tattoos to his unfamiliar tone, Leto’s Joker was light years away from the classic. However, as most trailers sometimes do, it gave fans a glimpse of his Joker’s potential.

As a part of Harley Quinn’s origin story, The Joker escapes Arkham Asylum with her as a hostage. In return for treating him, he repays her with electric shock treatment which transforms her into the villain she is today. Before administering the shock, he utters the unforgettable line, “I’m not gonna kill you. I’m just going to hurt you real bad.”
