4. The Wolf of Wall Street (Nov 15)
Cementing their partnership as one of the most fruitful and reliable in cinema history, Martin Scorsese teams with Leonardo DiCaprio once again for The Wolf of Wall Street, adapted from the memoir of Jordan Belfort, a New York stockbroker who refused to co-operate with the authorities in their securities fraud case, causing all Hell to break loose. The stupid-good cast includes Matthew McConaughey (who looks hilarious in it), Jonah Hill, Jean Dujardin, Kyle Chandler, Joe Bernthal, Jon Favreau, Rob Reiner, Spike Jonze and Ethan Suplee.
The Buzz: Scorsese's films don't often do the festival circuit, and short of a surprise bow at the New York Film Festival, it's unlikely to gain much traction ahead of its theatrical release,
but the trailer has such an enticing, manic pull that the film's sure to do great business, and as long as the script's in tip-top shape, this looks to be yet another winner for the indefatigable director. The real question, however, isn't whether the movie has the gumption to pull off a Best Picture nomination, but whether the oft-snubbed DiCaprio can finally bring home that Best Actor Oscar he has been trying so hard to nab in recent years.
