10 Predictable Horror Movie Deaths We All Saw Coming

4. Paul - Underwater

Underwater TJ Miller
20th Century Fox

Underwater is perhaps the most slept on movie of 2020, delivering a sub-nautical panic attack that climaxes in one of the most impressive surprise reveals one could hope for in a film of this ilk. Filmed in 2017 and released a good three years later, Underwater was delayed by the Disney-Fox merger, and emerged on the generally difficult January slate, which definitely didn't help it's widespread appeal.

In any case, it's a film with a group of researchers trying to escape their malfunctioning facility at the bottom of the ocean, so we're gonna see some traumatising deaths. That's a given, my thalassophobic friends.

And what is also a given is that T.J. Miller is going to be amongst their number. Comic relief has a time and a place, and his ill-fitting jokes only serve to make us do the 'hurry up' motion with our hands. Considering just how serious everyone else in this film is - and fair enough, they're about to be imploded by the pressures of the bloody Mariana Trench - it's fair to say that we know in our bones Paul's place isn't one on the final escape pod.

If Wash's death in Serenity taught us anything, it's that funny characters are used to hurt us the most.
