10 Problems Terminator Genisys Sequel Must Address

9. Give Interesting Secondary Characters More To Do

One of the few pleasant surprises in Terminator Genisys was the appearance of J. K. Simmons as Detective O'Brien - his world-weary, alcoholic policeman provides some much-needed humanity in a sea of otherwise bland and one-dimensional characters.

It's perhaps hardly surprising that he lights up every scene he's in - as his recent Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor win proved, he's an actor perpetually at the top of his game. Similarly, Doctor Who's Matt Smith makes a handful of fleeting appearances as Skynet/T-5000, but in both cases these intriguing characters are given disappointingly little to do.

Several of the many lengthy scenes of expository dialogue (more on that later) could have easily been pared down or removed entirely to make more room to flesh out additional characters. At the very least a Genisys sequel should involve them in more of the action, if only to break up the monotony of the main characters.
