10 Problems Terminator Genisys Sequel Must Address

3. Craft More Original And Dynamic Action Set-Pieces

There are several moments in Terminator Genisys when you're reminded of one of the major problems with overusing CGI - the terrible physics. It's a problem which first became painfully obvious in the Matrix sequels and has intermittently cropped up in countless blockbusters since.

Whether its the Guardian bouncing unrealistically onto the front of a police car (just so he can deliver the "Get out!" line) or the school bus flipping wildly into the air presumably because it looks good (even though it makes no sense), several shots in the action scenes lack weight and therefore fail to convince.

More broadly, the set-pieces themselves lack originality, with repetitious scenes of Terminators throwing each other through walls and a chase on the Golden Gate Bridge which feels like an amalgamation of countless other action movies. Director Alan Taylor might have worked on some fantastic television series, but on the evidence of this and Thor: The Dark World he appears to be out of his depth shooting for the big screen.

Perhaps a filmmaker with a solid track record for action should come on board for a sequel - a Terminator movie directed by Joss Whedon or Christopher Nolan would be a significant improvement.
