5. Is Koba Alive? - XXX Of The Planet Of The Apes

Far from padding out this article with an obvious question that is simply the final act of the previous film, this is something a lot more ambiguous than you think that could really shape the continued direction of the rebooted Planet Of The Apes series. Just as the conflict between humans and apes began to get to a point of no return, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes decided to mix things up and give us some ape-on-ape action, with leader Caesar and Koba, the most evil looking chimp ever, fighting for command. This fight ends with Caesar letting his former buddy fall to his death, using semantics to make it not murder. Koba's fate is further sealed when the whole building pretty much falls on him. And yet, a post credits scene (well, audio clip) plays some deep ape breathing, leaving open the possibility that he somehow survived all that. It'd be contrived (although Caesar also survived a similar fall and a gunshot wound to come back fighting fit), but it's a distinct possibility. We personally would like him to stay dead. As interesting a character as Koba is, the continued clashes in the ape hierarchy only serves to further put off what we really want to see in the reboot; monkeys completely taking over.
