4. He's A Comic Book Fan
Some actors will sign onto comic book movies just because of the paycheck, because they can see the dollar signs flashing and want to strike while the iron is hot. Though some may have been tempted to level such a claim against Affleck after the failure of Daredevil, he's proven since that he enjoys the superhero myth, and is very much a comic book fan, rather than a shill just looking to make a quick buck. One of Affleck's very best performances to date has to be in Hollywoodland, where he played George Reeves, the troubled actor who played the 1950s TV equivalent of Superman. In addition to this, he's played a comic book artist, Holden McNeil, in Kevin Smith's uproarious comedy Chasing Amy, and generally proven that he reveres the stories of comic book lore. It would have been very easy for Snyder and co. to cast a truly
now actor like Ryan Gosling, and the film would be guaranteed to make money, but instead, they decided to pick the right actor rather than letting money wholly trump artistry.
