4. Only The Third Act Is Remotely Scary

Credit where credit is due: the final 20 minutes of this movie are genuinely creepy and will probably raise the pulse of even those cynics who had already given up on the film.

Unfortunately, though, this is the only scary part of the movie, and so audiences will have to ask themselves whether it's fair to be put through an hour of scare-free tedium for a fairly solid final reel.

Almost everything prior to the concluding sequence feels too familiar to be effective, and while it's always advantageous when a movie ends strong, it's still nowhere near enough to compensate for 75% of the movie being largely devoid of thrills despite what the marketing may tell you.
