10 Reasons Star Wars: Rogue One Will Be 2016's Highest Grossing Movie

8. The Director Has Proven Box Office Chops

Gareth Edwards made a name for himself with his 2010 creature feature Monsters. Edwards managed to utilise a limited budget to great effect, making a modern day monster picture that managed to frighten and entertain audiences. Edwards€™ debut impressed Warner Brothers so much that the studio tapped him to resurrect the Godzilla franchise in 2014. The reboot pleased critics and audiences, earning a respectable $529 million in worldwide grosses and a RottenTomatoes score of 74%. While it would be a stretch to call Godzilla a mega-hit, Edwards€™ accomplishment is impressive considering what he had to work with; the campy Godzilla feature from 1998 ruined the franchise€™s reputation in the eyes of moviegoers. Edwards managed to restore some luster to the tarnished brand while simultaneously delivering one of the most effective entries in the long-running series. Edwards won€™t have the same hurdle to overcome when he helms Rogue One; J.J. Abrams€™ The Force Awakens already managed to wash away the bad aftertaste the prequel trilogy left in fans€™ mouths. Audiences are hungry for more Star Wars. The director€™s proven track record for delivering well-crafted blockbusters bodes well for his chances of meeting audiences€™ expectations and keeping the franchise€™s forward momentum going.
