10 Reasons The Best Things About Star Wars AREN'T The Movies

2. Better Diversity In The EU

When it comes to diversity in your work, the general consensus of how to go about it tends to boil down to that old adage "sh*t or get off the pot". You either do it or you don't, whatever you do, do NOT try to have it both ways. In this game, trying to play both sides just gets everyone yelling at you. Unfortunately, movies like Avengers Endgame and TROS ignore this advice and people are still rightly chiding them over it.

Fortunately, we have the Star Wars EU - particularly the current novels - to provide all the diversity that the films are too cowardly to commit to. From fantastically written gay characters like Sinjir Rath Velus from Star Wars: Aftermath, to the first openly asexual Star Wars character in Vi Moradi from Star Wars: Phasma. Certainly better than the table scraps TROS gave us at the end.

Yes there are various geopolitical reasons why Disney and other studios don't commit to more representation, but Star Wars is a bulletproof franchise that can survive a few countries throwing a hissy fit. The Del Rey EU alone proves that it's high time that Star Wars either sh*ts or gets off the pot.
