10 Reasons The Marvel Cinematic Universe Is Doomed To Fail
3. The Impact Of Every Story Is Increasingly Numbed By Repetition
When you watch the world potentially meeting its doom in a movie, the stakes are high; because most movies don't exist in a cinematic universe and are instead part of their own singular canon, you worry for the characters and are unsure as to what will happen when it's over. With the MCU, the rules are very different - we know the world isn't going to end, we know our heroes are going to survive, and we know that the bad guys are going to be defeated. Which is another way of saying: with every added MCU film, the overriding tension is lessened. As a result, there are lots of things that the MCU can't do that other films can. But for the most part, the biggest issue stems from the question, "How many times can we watch these heroes saving the world from something that looks huge and unstoppable, but really isn't?" Consider the damage done to New York and Los Angeles and London and Washington in the last four MCU movies; with every added chapter, the impact of the CG explosions has felt less inconsequential. Already, there's a sense of these "big final battle" occurring for the sheer sake of it.
