10 Reasons We've Already Given Up On The Amazing Spider-Man 2
5. We Want Jolly Jonah
J.K. Simmonss portrayal of Daily Bugle publisher/editor J. Jonah Jameson was a true highlight of the three Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. Its very rare for an actor to so perfectly capture the essence of a comic book character (super-powered or otherwise) on the big screen, but Simmons as Jonah was as close to perfect as you can ask for. Jonah was criminally absent from Marc Webbs The Amazing Spider-Man, and theres no indication hes going to appear in the sequel. There have been at least a couple of references to the character on the films promotional Daily Bugle Tumblr page (which is actually an example of some slick marketing), but Jameson warrants more than just a shout out on a web page. Hes arguably one of the greatest supporting characters in comic book history. While the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus can fight between themselves as to who is Spider-Man's arch nemesis, Jonah has long served as Spideys chief antagonist, using the power of the press to publicly besmirch the Wall Crawlers name. Jonahs actions contribute greatly to what has made Spider-Man appeal to such a broad audience for so long. Spidey is a relate-able character who readers are made to sympathize with because a bully like Jonah disregards his heroics and calls him a menace. How did anyone at Sony Pictures green light a Spider-Man movie without the involvement of a character as important as J. Jonah Jameson? It would be like telling Spider-Mans origin story without Uncle Ben or Aunt May.
