10 Reasons We've Already Given Up On The Amazing Spider-Man 2

5. We Want Jolly Jonah

J.K. Simmons€™s portrayal of Daily Bugle publisher/editor J. Jonah Jameson was a true highlight of the three Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. It€™s very rare for an actor to so perfectly capture the essence of a comic book character (super-powered or otherwise) on the big screen, but Simmons as Jonah was as close to perfect as you can ask for. Jonah was criminally absent from Marc Webb€™s The Amazing Spider-Man, and there€™s no indication he€™s going to appear in the sequel. There have been at least a couple of references to the character on the film€™s promotional Daily Bugle Tumblr page (which is actually an example of some slick marketing), but Jameson warrants more than just a shout out on a web page. He€™s arguably one of the greatest supporting characters in comic book history. While the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus can fight between themselves as to who is Spider-Man's arch nemesis, Jonah has long served as Spidey€™s chief antagonist, using the power of the press to publicly besmirch the Wall Crawler€™s name. Jonah€™s actions contribute greatly to what has made Spider-Man appeal to such a broad audience for so long. Spidey is a relate-able character who readers are made to sympathize with because a bully like Jonah disregards his heroics and calls him a menace. How did anyone at Sony Pictures green light a Spider-Man movie without the involvement of a character as important as J. Jonah Jameson? It would be like telling Spider-Man€™s origin story without Uncle Ben or Aunt May.
