10 Reasons Why 2013 Is A Seminal Year For Sci-Fi Films

6. Ender's Game

EndersGame Based on one of the most popular and enduring Sci-Fi novels of all time, Ender's Game is set in a future Earth once again ravaged by a technologically superior alien race (I'm starting to see some common themes cropping up in these films). Asa Butterfield stars as Ender Wiggin, an unusually gifted child who is sent to an advanced military school where he and other children are trained to prepare against a future invasion. Why We Are Excited: This film spent a long time languishing in Development Hell, with Wolfgang Petersen coming closest to actually making it a few years ago before the project fell apart again. Though director Gavin Hood's track record with English-language films is spotty at best (lest we forget X-Men Origins: Wolverine), the strength of the source material should be enough to bank on. The film also features a fantastic ensemble cast, with Harrison Ford, Abigail Breslin, Ben Kingsley, Hailee Steinfeld and Viola Davis rounding out the major characters. The book has long been considered notoriously difficult to adapt to film, and I am personally very excited to see how it all turns out.
