10 Reasons Why Dark Phoenix Is One Of The Greatest WORST Comic Book Movies Ever
6. The Drastically Dwindling 'Team'
Hysterically, the film gets so low on proper X-Men team members that it has to hastily introduce characters like 'fighting dreadlock man' and 'yet another telepath' to even attempt to fill out the team roster. For a franchise that has often had too many characters, it is an exceedingly baffling problem to have.
From the get-go the team of X-Men is fairly small and it's very noticeable. Compounding this error further is the fact the film goes and makes Jean evil, kills off Mystique, and writes Quicksilver out for the entire final two-thirds of the film with an injury.
So halfway through the film, the only X-Men left are Cyclops, Storm, Beast, and Nightcrawler.
Kinberg has spoken at length about how he wanted Jean's actions to fracture the team, resulting in a "Civil War-style split". But that doesn't work at all if there's no actual team to split in the first place.
