10 Reasons Why Hogwarts Would Be A Terrible Place To Live

7. The Whomping Willow

The Whomping Willow was planted the same year Remus Lupin came to Hogwarts. The passage at the base of the tree granted him access to the Shrieking Shack and allowed him to transform into a werewolf without being seen.

Though the tree was certainly effective at deterring students, this doesn’t explain why it wasn’t removed once Lupin had finished his education. Harry and Ron are almost crushed to death at the start of The Chamber of Secrets, and it’s safe to assume they won’t have been the only ones who’ve had altercations with this violent tree.

What’s more, there’s no notices or signs to warn approaching students about the Whomping Willow, so unless you’ve been told about it beforehand, chances are you’ll end up in the hospital wing pretty soon.
