4. Polar Opposites
The first and last parts to the Jaws series are polar opposites. The first was a blockbuster masterpiece, a film that proved itself genuinely capable of scaring people out of the water - 1975 saw the lowest beach attendance in decades, but the highest cinema attendance in a long time too. 1987 saw nothing of importance as a result of The Revenge, other than, as we have already confirmed, getting Michael Caine a house and starting up the short-lived psychic vs. shark sub-genre. But tally up the numbers and you'll see just how big a difference these two films have. 100% to be exact. Reviewer Aggregate Rotten Tomatoes rarely sees a film receive 100% acclaim, or 0%. You can already see where I'm going with this. Jaws retains the near-impossible of a perfect score, while the equally impressive (although somewhat less prideful) reward of a big fat nothing goes to everyone's favorite film.
