10 Reasons Why The Muppet Christmas Carol Is The Best Christmas Movie

9. Mr. Fozziwig

The charitable, fun-loving Mr. Fezziwig was an obvious character choice for Fozzi Bear - even leaving asides the obvious pun. His innocence and generosity light up the film during one of Scrooge's journeys down memory lane.

Just like in the book, Fozziwig is as equally interested in making money as he is spreading happiness and maintaining traditions that bring joy to those around him. His contrast to Scrooge, who even in his youth was tight-fisted and cold, is a testimony to what old Ebenezer (and to Dickens, the increasingly industrialised world at large) has lost.

Fozziwig brings an endless level of joy even though he only appears in the film for a brief while. It may seem strange too, given the sizeable role Fozzi Bear has been given in Muppet adventures both before and since, but his contribution here goes beyond his time on screen. Fozziwig is a major part of Scrooge's journey towards change, and by the end of the film the once bitter old man much more closely resembles his old master.

From the moment Fozziwig peeps round the door, you cannot help but break out in a smile. He is the embodiment of festive charity.
