7. The Toxic Avenger
A movie doesn't necessarily have to be particularly good to be a must-watch, as is the case with The Toxic Avenger. This 2025 effort isn't going to blow an audience's socks off as a cinematic masterpiece, but there is no denying that it is fun and unique.
As a remake of the 1984 film, Macon Blair's Toxic Avenger suffered for years in developmental hell, and was finally released in 2025 to much intrigue. Whether or not it lived up to the expectations after such a long time is almost irrelevant, as the movie simply seeing the light of day was a win.
The story follows Peter Dinklage's Winston Gooze and his revenge arc against Bob Garbinger (Kevin Bacon) and BTH after being subjected to toxic waste and turned into the titular monster. There are some ridiculous levels of gore, and while this doesn't make the movie unique itself, the less horror-esque elements do.
It is gruesome body horror crossed with weird comedy, with slapstick and sight gags almost akin to something you'd expect to find in a Naked Gun outing. Simply put, The Toxic Avenger needs to be seen to be believed and truly appreciated.
